What brought visiting scholar Alexis Samuels to UWaterloo?


We often talk about the intellectual exchanges happening in the English Department; Alexis Samuels epitomizes this, as a visiting scholar from the University of West Indies. She was kind enough to do an interview with Words in Place. I’ll admit: I’m quite intrigued by the program which brought her here. Read on to find out more–JLH

JLH: Firstly, welcome to UWaterloo. Can you tell us a bit about the scholarship that is enabling your studies here?
AS: In 2009, Prime Minister Harper declared the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) to boost human capital and encourage the next generation of front-runners in the Americas, while solidifying the relationships between post-secondary institutions in Canada and Latin America and the Caribbean.
